Latest Family Vacation…

Our latest family vacation took us on a road trip that covered over 2,200 miles on the east side of the country.  We started by driving to Washington, DC and on our way stopped in Columbus, Ohio to visit a friend of Lisa’s and break up the first leg of our drive.  We spent 5 nights in Washington, DC staying at the beautiful Gaylord National hotel on the Potomac River.  We saw plenty in Washington and learned a lot about our country – from the monuments to the museums to Mount Vernon to Great Falls Park.

The next leg of the road trip took us to New York – midtown Manhattan to be exact.  We spent 3 nights in New York and did a ton of walking…averaging more than 10 miles per day.  We did all of the standards in New York…Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Times Square and Central Park.  We also got a chance to go for a run in Central Park with one of Lisa’s friends acting as our tour guide.  One of the highlights of New York was seeing Lion King on Broadway which was absolutely amazing.

The final leg of the trip took us to the mountains of Western Pennsylvania to the Seven Springs Mountain Resort.  This was a ski resort with plenty to do in the summer.  We did a bunch of hiking in the moutains, raced each other down the alpine slide and enjoyed the fresh moutain air and peacefulness…which was quite the contrast to both New York and DC.  We also visited the Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water house in Bear Run, Pennsylvania….a great experience that I would recommend to anyone traveling through Pennsylvania.

After 3 nights in Pennsylvania we headed home and made sure we stopped at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.  It was a quick stop, but a nice experience…the amount of stuff in the hall of fame is pretty amazing and even though we did not have the time to experience everything and read everything we all learned something,

All in all this vacation was another one worth remembering…we really do live in an exciting and interesting country.  Be sure and check out all of the photo highlights from this vacation.
